Late October I was visiting the Jubliee Farm in Carnation. Families were picking pumpkins and watching their kids ride the ponies. I walked through dew covered fields looking for late winter vegetables and found beautiful rows of collard greens. I admit I got caught up capturing the droplets of dew on these hardy leaves. I never made it to the pumpkin fields content to walk along the rows of collard greens.
Some of my most satisfying experiences photographing outside were wandering
over and through farm fields east of Seattle. I wait patiently for warmer
weather and everything that comes with it.
Image shot out of focus starts to shift between abstraction and reality. Shapes
become more distinct without harsh outlines; colors are muted and more natural.
There is this wonderful farm out near Fall City, WA that's only open for the
month of October. They sell pumpkins, cider, sunflowers. They have a couple
of green houses where they grow gourds in late fall. You can go there and
wander around the fields and walk through the green houses where the tables
are full of fall veggies. I always seem to be at the farm when it's not too
crowded. After walking through the fields I stop in the green houses, arrange
whatever they have left there and take pictures. The light which is amazing,
would be very hard to recreate in a studio.
